We are so excited to announce that Mitra is joining this co-creative process of caregiving in the community through the use of empowering and pleasure-centered approaches. We will be re-imagining how we can best deliver therapy in the community, as we have all endured collective trauma and loss. We center social justice, inclusion, power, pleasure, creativity, and liberation with our QTPOC community, and hope to develop experiences that will activate our wildest dreams.
As a multiethnic, multicultural woman of color, child of an immigrant, and trauma-informed associate clinical social worker with a background in gender studies, Mitra deeply understands how important it is to consider the intersectional* identities of her clients. She provides an integrative and collaborative approach to the therapeutic relationship. Weaving together evidence-based and experiential practices such as expressive arts, play, Socratic dialogue, and cognitive behavioral tools, Mitra creates a container where clients can explore existential musings, unpack the symbolism in their dreams, identify and re-frame harmful narratives, name and process complex emotions and more.
As a trauma-informed yoga instructor, she also addresses emotions as they show up somatically, and calls on the body’s innate wisdom to deepen self-trust and enjoyment. Mitra will often lead clients through gentle movement and breathwork to encourage stimulation of the parasympathetic nervous system and reduce stress while grounding into the present. Throughout this co-regulating embodiment exercise, she intentionally uses language that is invitational and empowering. Mitra encourages her clients to listen to their body, with the intention of reminding them of their autonomy.
